    Background

The Republic of San Marino, also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, was founded in the fourth century and takes its name from Marinus, a stone-mason who sought refuge when fleeing religious persecution.

Located in north-central Italy, San Marino is known for its castles, cliffs and cobbled streets, offering a picturesque and tranquil setting in which to relax after the exciting races.

For those looking to catch a little bit of sun while on their weekend break, there are plenty of beaches to choose from in this region of Italy.

    Things To Do

Whether you wish to kick back and relax, walk along a busy shopping street, or enjoy Italian cuisine at its finest, the Adriatic coast of Italy is a good place to be. The Republic of San Marino is a stone-throw away from Rimini and Riccione, coastline cities with thriving night life, cuisine and shopping districts.

Or why not head a little further, if time allows it, and see Bologna, capital of the Emilia-Romagna Region of Northern Island. At about the same distance in the West from San Marino, you can find Florence, famous for its Duomo, the cathedral designed by Brunelleschi.

If you are looking for local adventures, however, San Marino offers a large variety of things to do: visit castles and fortresses in the small region, such as Guaita Fortress on Monte Titano, the highest peak in San Marino. Enjoy the local Sammarinese cuisine at the many restaurants welcoming you, and take a tour of Republic capital on foot.

    Weather

In San Marino, the climate is warm and temperate. The highest temperatures are registered in August, with an average of 24°C.
