Find somewhere you can sit down, where you can see a 'big' screen. Don't hurry to leave after the racing, take your time, it's a lot less stressful.

Le Mans Moto GP - May 2010

, 09 Jun 2010
By Ian Mazerolle
Arrived on the Friday lunchtime. (Eventually) found our way in as gate was closed and didn't think we had gone to trhe right place! We had "in circuit" camping included on our ticket in an excellent small camping site behing La Chapelle grandstand which meant only a 2 minute walk to the stand. The privacy and accessibility made the somewhat restricted raceday viewing worthwhile. Our ticket also had access to all areas, so we spent Friday and Saturday wandering around the circuit watching the practice and qualifying. This is an excellent circuit for moving around, with tunnels making most of the circuit accessible. We drove past the off-circuit camping which looked absolute chaos.... not the sort of place to be if it was a wet weekend. The only downside to the weekend were the europeans in the off circuit campsite revving their bikes onto the limiter for most of the night.... maybe I'm getting old, but what is the point? They had them on the stand, revving the c*$p out of them... no burnouts/wheelies etc.... I guess that would be too difficult for them! Went into Le Mans city centre on the Saturday evening using the tram service which is right by the circuit.... good selection of bars and restaurants. All-in-all, a great weekend.

My first Moto GP. The weather was superb and we managed to get a good view. It would have been better to have had more stands available to purchase (upgrade) on the day and a few more large screens would have helped. No doubt the toilet facilities could be improved and the exits under the track to get off the circuit and the end of the rest were dangerously congested with no supervision. Bike parking was excellent in the Exhibition Hall park but this information was only discovered though chatting with locals.

Fantastic event with loads of atmosphere, the circuit is very good but it could benefit from a few more big screens so that we could follow the whole race.
There were ample places from which to watch the race, however I would make sure you get to the circuit early to ensure you get a good vantage point.

I found the toilet facilities somewhat lacking as although there was a toilet block close by it was closed, which meant a long walk to find one that was open.

There were ample stalls from which to buy food and drink, however as usual you were paying somewhat inflated prices, my advice would be to take your own food and refreshments and save a bundle and a lot of queuing!

Acces to the circuit was easy and well marshalled, secure parking for the motorbikes was available and very well managed.

This was my first Moto GP and I loved the whole experience, even when we left the track and were on our way back to the hotel, the streets were full of locals who were waving and taking pictures of the motorbikes as they made their way home, what a great atmosphere.

I would recommend it to anyone who has never tried it

Le Mans - a bit of preparation goes a long way

, 24 May 2010

Just got back from the MotoGP at Le Mans. We drove over via Eurotunnel which made for a long journey through France on the autoroutes, however the journey was smooth. Got to the circuit easily, then had a bit of a run around getting in, we wanted to get into the Rouge campsite, but the roadsigns directed you to an entrance that wasn't open :/ ended up being pointed in the right direction by one of the site workers. Arriving at the campsite at 6ish on Thursday night meant we had the pick of where to pitch, unfortunately the ground was solid with gravel and sand, which made pitching a tent very difficult, we somehow managed to get 6 tent pegs in, but the rest had to be weighed down by our kit.

Looking at the campsites for the grandstands, these were much better, all grass-y, so think we'll splash out on grandstand tickets if we go another time. Remember your suncream, it was very very hot, and there's very little shade = lots of red bodies. Also bring as much food/drink as you can, as the prices on site are extortionate - £3 for a can of coke / £8 for a baguette with chips.

The race was brilliant though, Lorenzo did a star turn.

Leaving the site took an age took us 2 hours to get out of the campsite and onto the autoroute out of Le Mans. All in all a brilliant weekend, glad we took the monday off work to recover though :)

Could have done with more info about the camping. Found a site more by luck. A sat Nav post code would have been really useful.

Apart from the thanks for getting tickets in plenty of time, and for keeping us informed of with e-mail
